Our ability to reason and figure things out in life is a wonderful gift that we have been given.  We see, we discern and we make decisions based on the concrete data we have before us.  As amazing as this gift may be God has also given us something that far exceeds our ability to reason intellectually.  That is our intuition.  Our intuition is God within us, at a spiritual level, moving within us in an exciting way.  This wonderful, inner knowing is that feeling deep within that overcomes our intellectual reasoning and moves us to ever deeper relationship with the spirit of God.  Our experience of this inner knowing, or intuition, expands and lifts us to experiencing life in a mystical way that allows us to be more alert and aware of all that we truly are as the creation of a loving God.  This inner knowing is truly God speaking to us.  God speaking to us not in words, but in a beautiful sense of the Divine right were we are.

God is forever revealing to us more of God’s Self and through our deep intuition, or gut-feeling, if you prefer, the true nature of God can fully act in our lives.

“For in Jesus every one of God’s promises is a ‘Yes.’  For this reason it is through him that we say the ‘Amen,’ to the glory of God.”

                                                   (2 Corinthians 1: 20)

Affirmation:  “With new awareness I recognize the love of God within me.”

The Power of Thank You

I had a minister growing up who preached a sermon one Sunday that has forever stayed with me.  He said the next time we go to God in prayer try only saying “thank you.”  Don’t ask for anything, just say “thank you.” In saying a “thank you” prayer you continually list all the things for which you are grateful.  It’s a powerful prayer that not only affirms God’s grace in our lives, but it opens our eyes and hearts to see our blessings in abundance.  It makes sense.  If we constantly dwell upon the things we see as negative in our lives those are going to be the things on which we remain focused.  In counting our blessings we set the stage in consciousness to recognize the power of God in new and exciting ways.  Irving Berlin wrote a great song called, “Count Your Blessings.”  The lyric ends with, “and I fall asleep counting my blessings.”  What a wonderful way to rest in the security of God.

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.”

                                                                 (Colossians 3: 13-16)

Affirmation:  “I bathe in God’s light and all things become perfect, whole and complete.”

I read a wonderful quote, it said, “God doesn’t call the qualified, God qualifies the called.”  What this says to me is that God is there at every moment to fill whatever need we may have.  Though the task before us may seem insurmountable we don’t have to go it alone.  God will provide all the resources required if we allow God’s Divine Spirit to lead us.  In this “I can do it all myself” world we often leave little room for God.  But in truth it is God who lights our path and carries the heavy burden, giving us just what we need, as we need it.  As we place the seed of our belief and trust in God, water it with our joyous expectancy and offer God the praise, truly God qualifies us for the fulfillment of His calling. As children of God we have been called and it is our Father’s good pleasure to offer us the kingdom.

“Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”   (Mark 1: 17)

Affirmation:  “Spirit is the soil into which I place the seed of my belief.”

I re-discovered a wonderful quote at the end of an old worship bulletin that said, “Worship has ended, let the service begin.”  What a wonderful reminder that after we first come together as the body of Christ to worship, pray, praise and give thanks, we are now commissioned to go forth in service to follow Christ’s teaching.  This quote reminds me that our church experience does not end with the benediction, but in many ways it is just beginning.  We have been fed.  Fed by the word, the music, the bread and the cup, now it is time for us to go forth and feed the world.  With thanks to God we go forth, knowing that as the children of God, brothers and sister with Christ, we go forth to share in the blessings we have received.   God’s service to us never ends and as we live by Christ’s example, neither does ours.

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”   (Mark 1:17)

Affirmation:  “Filled with the blessings of God, I go forth now in his name.”

Setting A New Intention For The Day

Christ, experience, God, happiness, intent, intention, joy, mind, peace

Image

What intention have you set for your life today?  This week?  This month, or this year?  Or, have you just been taking each day as it comes, hoping for the best?

We have all heard the expression, “got up on the wrong side of the bed today.”  When we give into that feeling, that emotion for our life that day, we have set before us a mighty intention that will color everything we experience.  That’s where our mind is, where our focus is aimed, and so that is what we are poised to continue to experience.

We can unconsciously set an intention by being angry, unhappy, feeling put upon, you name it, or we can, with conscious intent, place before us a road of happiness, peace, joy and excitement.  We get to choose. What would we like to experience this day?  How will we recognize it?  What stepping stones are we putting down to get us there?  Now, of course things will come at us during the course of a day that would not be ones we would wish to experience, but, if we have set a positive intention for ourselves of peace, joy and Christ’s presence moving in our lives we will be in a much better place to handle those curves in the road.

So, try a little experiment with me for several days and see what happens.  Before you get out of bed, affirm the presence of God right where you are.  Affirm that God is in all the events that enfold throughout the coming day.  Affirm that God is helping your faith and joy in living to prosper.  And also affirm that any little annoyances that may come up God will smooth over and handle with perfect peace.  This new focus of intention will go before you to create more of those things you would wish to experience and it will also bring the joy and peace of God into your life in new and wondrous ways.

Affirmation:  “Everywhere I look I see spirit expressing.  How wonderful, how comforting, how magnificent!”

What Do You Wish To Experience?

affirm, experience, God, heal, reflection

There is a wonderful old proverb that says, “The doctor dresses the wound and God heals it.”  The God who fashioned our bodies, created us; our organs, our cells and all that we are, is also the God who maintains and sustains us.

So, what are we thinking and believing today about the power of God?

We should daily affirm the presence of God; we should daily visualize God moving in our lives in ways that bring us peace, harmony and joy.  We should daily affirm that for which we are grateful and refrain from continually nursing, rehearsing and broadcasting to others our pains and hurts.

Begin to know that God is healing all aspects of your body as the ancient proverb says.  Know that those things we dwell upon multiply, so ask yourself, what would we like to see multiplied in our life?  Instead of affirming what we don’t wish to experience, perhaps we need to take another tack.  Affirm those things we do wish to experience and allow those things to become the new expression of all that we are.  We can dress the wounds of our life by affirming our belief in a loving, powerful, giving God, and we can leave the healing part up to the one who has continually showed us that all things are indeed possible.

Affirmation: “I see a new reflection before me. It is the reflection of the Christ moving in new and exciting ways that heal all aspects of my life.”

Rev. Jefferson Beeker

The Christ is the reflection of God’s very being, and he sustains all things by his powerful word.”                                                        (Hebrews 1: 3)

The Totality of What We Believe

believe, bumper sticker, God, namaste, peace

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”

                                                   (Psalm 19: 14)

There was a wonderful story in the Huffington Post recently.  A woman, with a small child, had walked out of the Whole Foods pushing her loaded shopping cart while trying to maneuver her small child toward their car.  It wasn’t an easy task, but she was doing the best that she could.  Cart in one hand, child in the other.  Suddenly, very stealth like, a car pulls up behind the woman and the man inside lays on his horn, while yelling for the woman to get out of the way.  Very startled, the woman manages to get over to the side as the car whips around and into the first parking slot it could find.  Looking over, the woman notices a bumper sticker on the car.  It read, “Namaste.”

Really?  “Namaste?” Peace, love, tranquility, the God in me meets the God in you?  This really makes me think.  It’s not enough to proclaim something with words if we can’t live that meaning in our hearts.  Some of the most God-like actions we can do to minister to another use no words at all. A smile, a kind gesture, a helping hand.  Who we are, and what we profess, comes from our hearts, not the words we place on our car bumpers, or on a t-shirt we might wear.

As our scripture says, may the totality of what we do be acceptable to God.  Our actions, and yes our words, must always touch others as we would desire to be touched.  Let us live that truth, and then let the Huffington Post report on that.

Affirmation:  Today I truly live what I would believe and proclaim to the world.”

God, light, release, shadows, truth

Affirmation for today: As I walk into God’s light today, all the shadows of the past are behind me.  I release and let the darkness in those shadows go, embracing fully all that God is in my life now and forever more.   Thank you God for shining the light of new truth all around me.

baby walking, faith, God, Spirit, try again

Image

“Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and anyone who comes to me I will never drive away.”       (John 6:37)

One of my favorite things is to watch a little baby learning to walk.  It’s wonderful.  They begin by realizing they can stand on their own little legs.  Stand up, like grown up people do.  Then, they try taking a step forward, and at this point they usually fall down.  Being close to the ground, and fairly well-padded, this is not much of a problem.  But what does the baby do?  Does the baby decide that walking is going to be too difficult and maybe that “crawling thing” isn’t so bad after all?  Or does the baby try again.  Fall again, try walking again, over and over until success is had?  You bet.  And so often there is a parent, or other adult across from the baby, with open arms beckoning the little one forward, saying, keep your eyes on me, you can do it.  Take another step.

Well, my friends, that is God.  God is standing across from each and every one of us, with arms outstretched calling us forward.  We need only keep our gaze on God as with each tiny step we move ever closer to where we wish to be.  Will we sometimes fall down?  You bet. But we are meant to get up again, take another step, no matter how big or small, and move in the direction of God’s perfect presence.  One foot in front of another, one thought after another, one affirmation after another, until eventually we arrive with God in that new place that makes our life truly meaningful.

So, take a step.  Begin now.  God is waiting for you.

Affirmation:  “With each step of faith I move closer to that perfect place where I want to be.”

blessing, grace, listen, peace, thought, unconditionally

“Delight in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

                                                                          (Psalm 37: 4)

How wonderful it is to know that God’s grace is always available to us.  It’s comforting.  It’s reassuring.  It’s peaceful.  But it seems to me that if we are to experience God’s grace we need to get on the same wavelength with God.  We can recognize God’s grace only by our willingness to let God into our lives.  The grace is there, we have to stop and get in touch with Spirit.  It’s like tuning our radios to a certain frequency.  The station we want is out there, it’s broadcasting, but we have to tune our receivers to the right signal to hear it.  God speaks to us at the level of our willingness to listen.  When we have the willingness to listen to God what we find is that God is right there, waiting for us.  Grace upon grace.  Blessing upon blessing.  Offered unconditionally.

Affirmation:  “Thank you God for always being as close as my very next thought.”
