“Being built upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone.” (Ephesians 2: 20)
The above scripture is carved atop the entrance of the National City Christian Church in Washington, D.C. Disciples of Christ founder Thomas Campbell envisioned a cathedral church for the denomination in the nation’s capital, one that would light the way for a new nation, guide its path and direct its leaders toward a new humanity for all. The scripture tells us that Jesus Christ is the chief cornerstone, the spark of light, the core of each of our beings that added to the light of others creates a mighty light of healing, prosperity and hope for all. National City is certainly that witness.
A cathedral may be a beautiful building, but a building has nothing to offer apart from the spirit of those who inhabit it. We are each the cathedral of Christ’s church. We are the cathedral that will witness to the world and give it new direction. We are the cathedral that can proclaim the coming of the Christ anew with our every breath. Our foundation is the Christ, his light is our light. It is his energy and vibration of Spirit that moves through us and awaits our recognition of its power. As we do recognize and affirm this power lives are changed, relationships and bodies are healed and abundance of all good things is magnified before us. Affirm that light, power and presence of the Christ in your life. Your life and the lives of those around you will never be the same.
Affirmation: “Christ is the cornerstone of my life. The grace, power and blessing of the Lord guides me each and every step of my way.”
If you live in, or find yourself visiting Washington, D.C., consider worshiping at National City Christian Church. (www.nationalcitycc.org) You will be truly blessed and welcome.
