My brother sends me articles about nutrition and health via email just about every day. Eating well, and taking care of oneself, is something he is very passionate about.   Many of these articles speak about the fact that our physical bodies so often are suffering from inflammation.  We may not even know it, but gone unchecked this inflammation soon affects us with sickness, decease and discomfort.

So, it made me think.  What about our spirits?  I think so often our spirits are suffering from an inflammation caused by separateness from God.  Certainly not separateness on God’s part, but on ours.  We too often become lethargic and lackluster about our relationship with the flow of God’s perfect energy within and around us and we cut off this beautiful life affirming presence from fully blessing us.  Left unchecked, this inflammation of spirit soon causes our lives to spin out of control.  When this happens we often wonder what went wrong and why.  It is most often then, that after we have exhausted all of our human efforts to right a situation, that we finally turn to God in prayer. So, how should we treat this inflammation before it gets out of control?

We need to treat this inflammation by continually affirming the presence of God in our lives.  We need to connect with God even when things are going as we would like them to go, not just when things go array.  When things are going well a simple, “thank you, God,” will remind us that God is working and moving in our lives and our connection is strong.  Recognizing how much we are blessed at every moment is a powerful healing agent for our lives.  Affirming God’s ever presence becomes a powerful healing agent that, done over time, sets for us a new pattern of thinking and believing that shapes a life we truly wish to lead.

Preventative medicine keeps our bodies well and healthy.  Keeping our connection, our prayer life, our worship time, our service for God going keeps our spirits strong.  When our spirit is healthy all of our life’s experience will fall into place in a beautiful and life affirming way.

“But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you.”      (Romans 8: 9)

Affirmation:  “Recognizing God’s presence, always right where I am, my life flows with renewed peace, joy and possibility.”

Rev. Jefferson Beeker

We live our lives one thought at a time.  Let each of those thoughts really count for something wonderful.

Be prepared to change your thinking and change your life.  Please join us each Sunday at 5:30 PM in our Social Hall at First Christian Church, North Hollywood, CA for our Contemporary Celebration and Praise service. Come as you are and enjoy an hour of great music from our wonderful band and singers, inspiring messages and good fellowship. Those things in life that you have been seeking have also been seeking you. Now is a good time to receive them.

Also, join me on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8 PM for an hour of guided and silent meditation, reflection, affirmation and prayer.  As always, we will share communion together.  Everyone is welcome.
