Jesus, in the gospel of Luke, reminds us that to worry, to be overcome with doubt and anxiety, will not add a second to our lives. What it will do is block us from understanding the perfect flow of God in our present moments. When we worry the majority of our conscious thinking is on our troubles and concerns. When we worry our focus is so much on our “problems” that it is pretty much a sure thing that if a solution were to present itself we would miss it completely. Simply put, where we place our thoughts, and what we dwell upon, is what we are going to continually experience in our life.
Yes, we all have concerns and burdens that so often overwhelm us and weigh us down. But, instead of seeing this as a problem, suppose we change our focus and see it as an opportunity. An opportunity to understand more of God working in our lives. An opportunity to see the fullness of God expressing fully in our lives. An opportunity to trust in God and to know we are loved, cared for and provided with all that we need. An opportunity to discover with fresh eyes the power of God who can make all things new. When we do this, when we turn our worries and concerns over to God, we transform our thinking and awareness, and we make a mighty shift into allowing God to reveal all of the wonders of God’s kingdom to us right here on earth.
It comes down to this, do you wish to waste your present moments with worry, or do you wish to spend them praising God for new possibility and renewal? As even the lilies of the field and the birds of the air are nurtured and cared for, so too are you, for you are now, as always, God’s beloved.
“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to their life?” (Luke 12: 25)
Affirmation: “Today I see opportunities for growth where I once saw only problems. Thank you God for walking with me through the darkness and back out into your glorious light.”
