If we truly practice having a Sabbath day (and I do hope we either already are, or are working at moving in that direction by creating time for quiet reflection) there are things we can do to move ourselves into a special place with spirit.  Just as for six days we work, we take care of all the “necessary” things that we need to do to keep life going, we are commanded in scripture to have a day to stop.  On this day of stopping we can rest, recharge, clear the anxieties, fears and stresses that attack our bodies and minds, and let go of all of that.  Being conscious of our breathing really helps us in shifting our focus.  We can breathe in deeply, hold it a moment, and really let that breath out, visualizing stress and anxiety leaving our minds and bodies and dissolving into nothingness right before us.  They dissolve into the Light of God’s Spirit and therefore no longer exist.  How freeing.

A time of Sabbath is a time for praise and thanksgiving, not a time for petition.  As we breathe and let go we give thanksgiving to God for all that we are and all the blessings we have received.  A full day of Sabbath and praise is wonderful, but at any time we can stop, breathe and let go.  We can re-center and re-balance our individual world and be in a new place with Spirit God.  Remembering the Christ presence we can proclaim along with the Psalmist, “I will sing to the Lord, for he has been good to me.

I will sing to the Lord, for he has been good to me.”   (Psalm 13:6)

Affirmation:  “Truly the presence of the Lord is in this place, and every place, for God is forever right where I am at every moment.”

We live our lives one thought at a time.  Let each of those thoughts really count for something wonderful.

Be prepared to change your thinking and change your life.  Please join us each Sunday at 5:30 PM in our Social Hall at First Christian Church, North Hollywood, CA for our Contemporary Celebration and Praise service. Come as you are and enjoy an hour of great music from our wonderful band and singers, inspiring messages and good fellowship. Those things in life that you have been seeking have also been seeking you. Now is a good time to receive them. We will lift one another to live exciting, abundant new lives of possibility and purpose.

Also, join me on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8 PM for an hour of guided and silent meditation, reflection, affirmation and prayer.  As always, we will share communion together.  Everyone is welcome.
