“Prayer is a means of bringing you to a point where you will accept what God wants.” (Norman Vincent Peale, best-selling author, minister)

I think this quote by the Rev. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale speaks deeply to us. Just what is it that God wants for us, individually, and collectively, as the community of Christ?

Some people may read this and think that this is saying that we are like puppets on a string and God is tugging and pulling at us in an effort to make us into something we perhaps don’t wish to be. That as puppets God has decided how each of us are to be blessed, or not blessed, how each of us are going to be favored, or not favored by God’s presence and intercession in their lives.

But that is not what Peale is saying at all. What God wants for us is to have a deep and abiding relationship with Spirit, to trust in God’s blessings and grace and to live in peace and harmony. God wants us to learn to live a life free of stress and turmoil, but when those things do seem to overcome us God wants us to have the assurance that we are never alone. God is right where we are to comfort and restore us to the fullness of Spirit’s divine creation.

So, what does God want for you? God wants you to know that you are loved and loved unconditionally. God wants you to know that God is there for you now and always, just a prayer and a thought away.

Affirmation: “I want what God wants. Peace, harmony, love and grace are always just a sweet prayer away.”
