I have always loved looking at maps. As a little boy pouring over maps and learning the geography of places fascinated me. The idea that far off places existed and had a lengthy history long before human beings knew about them also fascinates me. We find out about a place and think it is new and we are the first to experience it, but in reality it has been there since creation itself and has longed for us to find it.
There is a wonderful world of discovery awaiting us with God. God has created beauty and possibility all around us. Too often in our fog of self-doubt, worry and fear we fail to recognize the wonders and beauty before us. Like ancient explorers of another age we have become convinced that certain false assumptions are true. The world is flat, the sun revolves around the earth, God is far away from us, God plays favorites and we are not one of them, God may answer prayers, but not ours. Those types of thoughts need to be purged from our thinking and beliefs. To understand a new truth one must believe that a new truth is possible, that there is much more beyond our limited ability to see. With even a glimmer of faith we can begin to expand our awareness and see a greater truth. There is so much to discover with God if we remain open and receptive to new possibility.
We sometimes confuse discovery with creation. We don’t create, that is what God does. We discover and come to recognize that which God has so beautifully and deliberately placed in our universe with exact precision and form. Until we allow ourselves to be open enough to see more of this creation it will remain invisible to us. Be open enough to see just a little bit more of God’s wonders and soon more will be recognized. It is like a snowball rolling down the hill, it starts out small and soon grows. The more of God we experience and allow to touch our lives, the more our perception grows and our lives are changed for the good. We may never know all the wonders of God, but we will be moving in the right direction to increasing our faith and the joy of seeing miracles in our lives. Moving toward is always so much more powerful than stagnation or retreat.
That which we are seeking is seeking us. As we seek to know more of God and experience more of God the Divine is also seeking to draw us nearer. Be open to new worlds and new worlds will present themselves. Be open to discovery, to new horizons and experiences and they will be revealed. All that we wish to experience is already present and our faith in a new possibility can make that a new reality known to us.
Jesus taught that the kingdom of heaven is at hand. We don’t need to create it, we need only discover that it has been with us all the time.
Affirmation: “That which has been with me all along I now recognize. Thank you God for opening my heart and mind.”
