There was much commotion and activity in Bethlehem on that magical night so long ago, but far too little of it revolved around the coming birth of God’s son and the peoples Messiah. People were rushing about, in their own worlds, with their own agendas, not aware that an event was about to occur that would change the world. Two lonely people were in search of a place to rest and to deliver the savor of the world. There was no room for them, no room for Mary to have her baby at the inn. There wasn’t a place for her, it was filled with other people, doing other things, with other thoughts and concerns. But wait, this is the Lord, the Messiah who is about to be born. None of that mattered to the innkeepers and it certainly didn’t matter to the people who were warm and comfortable and involved with their individual lives, their minds and their hearts filled with earthly and material things. And yet, in the midst of so much that was going on that holy night God sent his son into the world to set before us a new covenant of peace, love, grace and possibility.

What about your mind and your heart? Is there room for Jesus to be born anew within you? Or is your heart and mind so filled with earthly things that now there is no more room? Are you so settled into your own way of thinking that Jesus has to fit into your agenda rather than you giving yourself over to him?

Jesus came to be a new compass for a people who had for generations wandered the earth in search of meaning. Now that meaning was available to them if only they would recognize the true gift that was being offered.

That gift presents itself to each of us as well. Welcome it with a grateful and open heart and mind and see how Jesus sets before you a new direction of amazing blessings.
