There are things that we do, often without really thinking about them, that can touch people in a profound way. Our smile can be a game changer for someone who is having a tough time, just received bad news, or is stressed and feels overwhelmed. We never know what others may be experiencing, so our smile can be received by them in marvelous ways of which we will never know. A smile is one of the easiest ways that we can touch the lives of another and it costs us nothing, but when we notice that our smile has touched someone our day also becomes brighter.
For many people we may be the only presence of the Christ that they will know. I believe that even though there are people who don’t attend church, say they don’t believe in “religion” or think that people who go to church are “strange,” that they still long for something deep within that connects them to something greater than themselves. We all long for a Spiritual connection in our lives, even if we don’t, or wouldn’t, admit it in so many words. We are all connected to a Creator who knows us intimately and loves us unconditionally. Our smile can go a long way to touch the lives of others.
Our smile also can minister to us. It lifts us up, can move us to a more positive outlook and can remind us that God is also smiling at us. When we practice greeting people in this way we soon discover some amazing things about ourselves. Our outlook is brighter, our health improves and we begin to see each new moment as one ripe with new possibility.
Affirmation: My smile can be a rainbow of hope to others as well as myself, so I give that smile freely to all.
