“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prune so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”

(John 15: 1-4)

Our scripture says, “Remain in me and I will remain in you.” That is a powerful promise. “No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine.” Neither can we bear fruit unless we too remain in Christ. You see, Christ only asks that we believe in him, that we trust in him. It is Christ who does the mighty work – through us. The fruits that we produce are the fruits of Christ working in us, and moving and giving expression through us.

We fall away from the vine when we forget our connection or choke it off by our doubt and our unbelief. We choke it off when we become convinced we are out there navigating the waters of life alone with no hope of rescue. But the good news is that just because we may have temporarily forgotten our connection to Christ, our fate has not been sealed and the outcome has not been written in stone for all time, for the reality of the situation is we are still connected. And in the moment that we turn again and recognize our connection to Christ we can once again allow the Divine energy of Spirit to take over. To flow again. That which may have seemed for a time to be lifeless and barren, can once again thrive on the vine of life and produce fruit that is again sweet and life sustaining. That which seemed dead is now alive. Your belief will make the difference. Your faith will cause your life once again to bloom.

Affirmation: “Divine energy flows through me for I know I am connected to the Christ.”
