“The power (of God) at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine.” (Ephesians 3: 20)

I read an interesting post on Twitter the other day. At first it made me laugh, but then as I thought about it I began to have a new appreciation for what it was saying. The Tweet read: “Keep a journal. You’ll never regret getting older if you can go back and check how stupid you used to be.” Funny, right?

As I have thought more about this something occurred to me. As we look back to that person we used to be, or to the thoughts and beliefs we used to have, we can hopefully see how we have grown and matured in our faith.

We are each magnificent creations of God, each given an individual expression of life unique to us. What we perhaps would recognize in encountering our younger self, and the thoughts and beliefs we used to hold, is that in now recognizing and affirming more fully this presence of God with us, we have grown in miraculous ways. Where once we saw through unfocused eyes of fear, doubt, worry and even despair, we are now focused clearly on the power of God moving through us. We can see with eyes of possibility and a trust in our Omnipotent (All Powerful) and Omnipresent (Everywhere Present) God. How wonderful it can be when we trust that as we take each step in life we are never taking it alone, but we are taking that next step with God.

So, if you were to one day in the future look back to what you have written in your journal today, what might you discover? Were you filling it with your beautiful thoughts of God’s presence, power in your life, the faith and trust that life is forever supporting you in wonderful ways? Would you also be filling it with your prayers and the answers and revelations that God has given to you?

Spending time to reflect on the presence of God in our lives, past and present, is important as we seek to be a people of faith now, as well as the future. Seeing and understanding how we have grown in relationship with God can be an exciting discovery.

Affirmation: “My relationship with God grows each day as in my quiet time with Spirit I discover the spirit within me.”
