It is Ash Wednesday today.  We begin the season of Lent.  I offer you this prayer as we begin this wonderful journey.  May your discovery of the presence of Spirit/God fill you anew with wonder, joy, comfort, peace and incredible possibility.

“Perfect God, always available and right where we are at every moment; just as the earth is in the orbit of the sun and held in place by gravity, we know right now that we are forever held in the orbit of your presence, love, grace and perfection by your welcoming Spirit.   The season of Lent is our journey toward that glorious Easter morning. That wondrous day of hope, that day of being raised to new spiritual awareness, and that day of salvation for our weary bodies and souls.   But we understand that this journey of Lent also includes the trial and pain of Good Friday. It contains a day of betrayal, lies, despair and utter brutality.

Though we face uncertainties and challenges in our lives may we also know that the bitter darkness of Good Friday does indeed, by God’s unfailing grace, give way to the glorious dawn and brilliant light of Easter. An Easter spirit that gives us new and revitalized strength.   May we affirm that the darkness of fear and uncertainty does give way to the light of new awareness, peace and love and that it fills us with hope in you God.   Our trials give way to victory, to new life and to resurrection.

With great intention in our hearts may we affirm that this Lenten season is one of new growth, a new awareness of Spirit acting, moving and creating in our lives, and may it also be a season when we all find a new resolve. A resolve that is filled with understanding, unconditional love, and a peace within our hearts for all humankind, and one that lights our way with new resolve for doing Christ’s work in our world.

This we pray in Jesus name, Amen
